Balai Charan Mandal is recognised as one of the eminent teachers and educationists in Panskura, West Bengal, India. He served almost 30 years as a lecturer of History at Panskura Banamali College. Out of million teachers, he loves teaching as a social work, not as profession. While most of the popular teachers use to engage themselves in private tuition to earn more, he is an exception. But he never had done so, in spite of many provocations. He tried to prevent student for private tuitions by producing and supplying class notes to them. He helped many poor students by donating books, admission fees etc. One of them is Subal Bhowmik (who lost parents in childhood) established career as a Head Master of a School near Islampur, North Dinajpur, West Bengal.

Inspired by the life and works of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, he played an instrumental role for the establishment of first girls’ school in the area of Mysora Gram Panchayet (district of Midnapur) on 1st January 1970. The school is Mangloi Radharani Girls School (H.S.). Radharani Bhunia, who donated the land for the school, and villagers of the village Mangloi helped a lot. But few gallous and powerful persons in the locality are still trying to obliterate the school from the very first date of the beginning. Mr. Mandal could have pursued to do Ph.D, but sacrificed his bright future just to save the school, at the cost of valuable period in life. He himself speaks often the school is his elder son. Even at the age of 68, he is still working for the school. Mrs. Radharani Mandal, his wife has joined in the journey at the young age and is still with him in this mission.

Mr. Mandal wants to teach and help more needy students, but at the present day much can be learned from his life and struggle.
